The case against ANSI

The ANSI flange is a dynamic joint which, when bending forces and tensile
loads are applied, become loose and weak.
•  Complex bolting requiring complex bolting equipment - Result : High Cost.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
•  Large flange diameters are difficult to work with, require more space and result in a complex handling
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
•  Gap created by raised face introduces corrosion problems
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
•  Large bolt forces to maintain gasket integrity
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
•  Excessive costs for large flange diameters in exotic materials
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
•  Regular re-tightening incurs increased life cycle costs

ANSI SPO Compact Flange
• High hydrostatic force   • Small hydrostatic force
• Large moment arm   • Small moment arm
• Reduced sealing reliability  • Increased sealing reliability
• Load transfer through gasket  • Load transfer through flange faces
